Enterprise Modeling in Practice – Insights from a Survey

Enterprise Design typically involves some modelling. A number of modelling languages are available to help do so in a standardized way and although some of those languages have been around for many years, there has been little evidence to date on how they are actually used in practice.

This campfire session will provide insights into how organizations make use of modelling languages (incl. EDGY, ArchiMate, BPMN, and UML) in practice, based on the results of a comprehensive survey run in 2025. Findings include the main purposes for which they are used, the major challenges in making effective use of them, the top creators and consumers of models in those languages, the perceived effectiveness of their use, and more. Special emphasis will be placed on how EDGY use compares to other languages and which conclusions can be drawn from this.

The session is designed to spark exchange. The insights from the survey are meant to provide a foundation for an engaging dialog.
